As a student helicopter pilot I still find stuff like this incredible - he performs some very tricky manoeuvres very well and then, well, basics: too low when starting a loop!

I think it's more likely he just started too low. He could have incorrectly set his altimeter or just made a mistake in his math. Although he could have gone into VRS but I doubt it because he had his nose low. You get out of VRS by dropping collective and putting the nose down and it happens pretty fast. I'd say it's pilot error setting the altimeter which isn't that rare.

@Wendigo127 not being argumentative, rather trying to learn.. Is this a case of VRS? or an un commanded loss of main rotor rpm as a result of the second last manoeuvre?

if you want to do a loop in a helicopter, at least attain first 1000 feet or so....
